Volunteering Roles

Retail Support – We have volunteers in a variety of roles, including sorting and pricing, customer service and shop displays, minor repairs on small items and helping to keep our shops and goods clean and tidy. Our retail volunteers are key to our fundraising with the earnings from the shops contributing a fifth of our income.

Electrical testing – Before any donated electrical goods can go into our shops for sale, they are tested to make sure they are undamaged, working, and safe to use. If you have had some experience in this area, we would love to have someone assisting at our Whanganui East shop, in Duncan St

Car Valet/s – Do you like to see cars well-maintained? We’ve got 6 of them working hard, getting our staff out to visit patients and families in their homes. We would love one or two people who can keep them clean, top up the window wash, check the tyres, even give them a clean now and then.

Delivery and pick-up – We have a busy team visiting homes throughout Whanganui, doing pick-ups and delivery for our retail shops. A general level of fitness is required, and as you will meet with our customers and donors a caring and respectful manner is a must.

Gardeners – Our gardens are an important part of the Hospice experience, providing beauty and peace to all who spend time here, and our gardeners are an enthusiastic team who take pride in keeping our gardens at their best. Friday mornings, 9am – 12pm, weather permitting.

Handy Person – We can always use some assistance with maintenance and repairs at Hospice, and this role would suit anyone with general fix-it skills. Ideally this would be a fortnightly or monthly role but can be a bit flexible for the right person.
