Inpatient Care

While the majority of the people we support are cared for in the place they call home, sometimes patients may benefit from some time in the Hospice Whanganui inpatient unit.

Our inpatient unit, located at 78 Virginia Road, has five beds dedicated to patients requiring symptom control, pain management, or end of life care.

A welcoming space

We offer a welcoming space for families and whanau to spend quality time with their loved one. We have no fixed visiting hours. All our rooms have their own bathroom, a small outdoor patio out to our extensive gardens, and access to a family room with kitchen facilities.

Professional care

Our clinical team works with the patient to ensure that they are comfortable and symptoms are under control before they go home. Everything from meals, medication, companionship, support, and counselling are available free of charge.

Our team of professional staff ensure patients and their loved ones are involved in all decisions made about their care and support.

Flexible stays

The length of stay varies for each person. If longer-term care is needed the Hospice team will liaise with other health partners to ensure there is continued support for our patient and their family and whanau. Once our patient returns to the place they call home, our community team will continue to support our patient and their family/whanau.
