At Hospice Whanganui, every partnership helps us do more for our patients and their whānau. Since June, Low Cost Bins has been supporting us by covering our refuse costs, helping ensure more of our resources can go where they matter most – into patient care.

How it helps:

While we recycle as much as we can – from paper and cardboard to plastics, scrap metal, and electrical items – there are still many donations we receive that simply can’t be used. Broken furniture, stained or ripped clothing, chipped homewares, and unusable items create a significant volume of refuse. Thanks to Low Cost Bins, the cost of disposing of these items has been lifted from our shoulders, allowing us to redirect those funds into patient care and whānau support.

An added community benefit:

Low Cost Bins has also gone one step further by setting up a dedicated bin at the Whanganui Re:Sort Transfer Station & Resource Recovery Centre. When visiting with your rubbish load, you can also drop off quality, reusable items that deserve a second chance of life! Helping keep good things out of landfill and supporting our local community. Hospice Whanganui collects these items, giving them a second life in our shops and turning them into vital funds for free hospice care.

Why it matters:

Every dollar saved in refuse costs is another dollar invested into free, compassionate care for patients and whānau in Whanganui. Partnerships like this help keep Hospice Whanganui sustainable and connected to our community.

“We’re proud to support Hospice by helping keep reusable items out of landfill and giving them a second life that benefits our community.” says Jamie Houia, Low Cost Bins.

We are extremely grateful to Jamie and the team at Low Cost Bins for their support. Their generosity not only helps Hospice Whanganui financially but also encourages the community to recycle and reuse in meaningful ways.
