At Hospice Whanganui, aroha isn’t just something we talk about – it’s something our volunteers live every day. From sorting donations in our shops to tending the gardens, sitting with patients, or making a cuppa for whānau, our volunteers bring compassion and kindness in countless ways.
The heartbeat of hospice
Hospice Whanganui has more than 130 volunteers. Each one gives their time, skills, and energy to support patients, whānau, and our wider community.
They are companions, gardeners, drivers, shop assistants, event helpers, and so much more. Together, they form the heartbeat of hospice.
A Special Shout-Out to Our Saturday Volunteers
We’d like to say a special thank you to our volunteers who contribute a few hours on Saturdays to help in our three Hospice Shops. Your commitment makes it possible for us to open longer hours, welcome more customers, and raise extra funds that directly support free hospice care for patients and whānau.
Volunteers are often in short supply, and we’re particularly grateful to those who are coming in on Saturdays to give our weekend shoppers more time to shop for treasures and bargains.
All our volunteers make an incredible difference throughout the year, if you’ve ever thought about joining our volunteer whānau, we’d love to hear from you. Application forms are available in all our shops, or you can visit our Volunteer page for more information.
Why volunteers matter
“Our volunteers are essential – working alongside our staff, they add a special layer of care and connection that makes hospice support truly special” says Kisu Hall, Volunteer Coordinator
By giving their time freely, our volunteers help us provide services at no cost to patients and whānau. Their aroha is woven through every part of what we do.
A message of gratitude
To every single volunteer – thank you. Your generosity of spirit allows Hospice Whanganui to keep walking alongside patients and whānau, offering comfort, dignity, and aroha in life’s final chapter.
💛 Volunteers are the heart of Hospice Whanganui.
