Free education and support sessions for family and friends who care for their loved ones.
What is the Carer Support Programme?
This small-group programme will give you the practical skills and knowledge you need to care for your loved one, and the opportunity to share your journey and learn from other carers.
Hosted by qualified, experienced Hospice staff, the programme supports you while you care for your loved one and is available for family members and close friends.
The Programme is run many times throughout the year as a Support Group over three sessions, once a week for three weeks. You can choose the Group that suits you best.
The Carer Support Programme is completely free and includes afternoon tea.
When: Thursdays, 1pm-3pm.
Where: Hospice Whanganui, Kowhainui Drive, 78 Virginia Rd, Whanganui.
Topics covered include:
- What to expect at the end of life
- Managing the changes including:
- food & fluids
- mouth care
- Non medical practicalities including:
- medical alarms
- wills / funerals
- enduring powers of attorney
- social and emotional impact of the illness
- Practical skills including:
- Moving and handling
- Hygiene and skin cares
- Ways to avoid falls
- Self care and relaxation
