We are so grateful to the Whanganui District Council for their support in taking away rubbish left outside our shop frontages.
While we have wonderful donors who generously donate goods that have a resale value and subsequently raise funds for Hospice, it’s unfortunate that sometimes things which are patently and obviously UNsaleable are left outside the Hospice shops.
Oftentimes these particular donations are left in the middle of the night. At times, everything from soiled clothing, bags of household rubbish or broken furniture is left, and it costs charities like Hospice a lot of money to dispose of it properly – it has become a persistent, recurring problem. The Council who respond promptly to our request for help, have been generous with their support, turning what is potentially a bit of a nightmare into something more manageable and we wanted to acknowledge them and the teams who come along for the clean-up.
Biggest thanks to you all and loads of appreciation for your help with this situation. The team recently helped clear a load of ‘stuff’ from the Tawa Street store and Sue and the Tawa St team offered them a cake for their morning tea in appreciation. The team have also helped with removal of ‘stuff’ from the Wanganui East store and scored a round of homemade pikelets in appreciation from Lynda and her crew! Thank you guys – SO much. It makes such a difference in trying to manage what can become a real difficulty for us.
