Palliative Specialist / Medical Officer with Palliative Care interest

Posted: March 13, 2024

We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist (Consultant) Palliative Care doctor or a Medical Officer with a special interest in palliative care to join our dynamic team at Hospice Whanganui.

What we offer:

  • A competitive remuneration package and paid time for professional development
  • Relocation assistance (where relevant)
  • Work/Life Balance

Whanganui is a bustling provincial town in the lower North Island with a vibrant arts, culture and café scene, alongside amazing outdoor and recreational opportunities.  It has a great climate and is central to many other towns and cities in New Zealand.

We are an engaging and vibrant group of people who are passionate about providing exceptional palliative care to all people in our community. We believe that everyone should have equal access to specialist palliative care in the place they choose to be.  This means that, while we have a small in-patient facility (5 beds) most of our services are provided in the community in patients’ homes and in partnership with their whānau.  We provide care to around 350 patients per year.

We have a small, but dynamic and progressive medical team and we are now looking to expand that team to manage the growing need for palliative care services in our community.

We work closely with many other partners across our community, including General Practice teams, Māori health providers, home-care providers, residential aged care facilities, St John’s ambulance, Te Whatu Ora Whanganui and the hospital-based team.  We also work closely with Arohanui Hospice in Palmerston North.

This position will suit someone who is looking to join a forward-looking team of professionals who are committed to testing the status quo in order to bring excellent palliative care to people in this region.  You will bring your passion and experience in palliative care to make a difference in our community.

Please find the Job Description attached in the link below and to express an interest in the role, please email your CV and cover letter to davenev@hospicewhanganui.org.nz Please use this same email if you have any questions.

To apply for this position, applicants must be a NZ Citizen or have Permanent Residency, or meet the criteria to legally live and work in New Zealand. We are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and welcome candidates who represent the diversity of our community.
