Hospice Whanganui’s community multi-disciplinary team visits our patients and their families in their own home, residential care facilities, or at our outpatient clinic rooms.
At any time, our community team is caring for up to 100 patients throughout the Wanganui district (including Waverley, Waitotara, Turakina, Ohakune, and Raetihi).
Our care
People with a limited time to live are faced with significant and challenging changes. Hospice Whanganui’s vision is to ensure that those needing our service have access to quality, compassionate care, assisting our patients to live as well as possible until they die, and to die with dignity.
Our care is holistic. We care for our patient, their family and carers, and other people who are important to them. We provide relief and treatment of physical symptoms including pain, and other physical, social, and spiritual challenges.
24 hour service
Our team of professional staff ensure patients and their loved ones are involved in all decisions made about their care. Patients and family can call at any time for nursing advice. We are a 24 hour service therefore there will always be a clinical person to assist you whether it be over the phone or in person.
Home visits
Hospice Whanganui community care also includes visits to the home. These are volunteers who visit our patients in their place of residence to provide respite for the carer, and companionship to a patient who has limited contact with friends and family.
These volunteers are carefully selected and trained. If any patient would like to take advantage of this service they can request this through the community clinical team.
